Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume from Borno South, has confirmed that no fewer than 42 students, including children, were abducted when armed Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists attacked the Primary and Junior Government Day Secondary School Mussa in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday.
The senator also called on security agencies to urgently intensify rescue operations, particularly urging troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, to step up efforts to secure the release of the victims.
He described the incident as barbaric and deeply distressing, saying it has left many parents and guardians in hopelessness.
Ndume noted that his constituency has continued to face repeated attacks and destruction, citing recent violence in Chibok communities such as Bambatsu and Ngadarma, where several people, including elderly residents, were killed.
He further explained that the Mussa school abduction was especially alarming because it happened while students were attending early morning classes.
In a statement he personally signed and issued to journalists in Maiduguri, the senator provided details of the victims.
He said that the information at his disposal, which he got from the schools’ authorities, indicated that “four (4) students were abducted from the GDSS (two male and two female), 28 pupils were abducted from the primary section, while 10 children were abducted from their various residential houses, making total of 42 persons”.
The Senator and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army also expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the Chibok attacks and other recent violence across the Southern Borno Senatorial District, while reiterating his call for swift and decisive action to rescue the abducted students.
