A fire outbreak on Thursday sent panic through the Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos State after flames engulfed parts of the General Hospital along College Road.
According to The PUNCH, the blaze, which affected sections of the three-storey hospital building, caused concern among residents and bystanders, many of whom feared that patients, including nursing mothers and infants, might be trapped inside.
A video from the scene, shared on Facebook by a user identified as Modinat Melemuku, captured the chaos as thick smoke rose from the facility. In her post, she appealed for immediate intervention, writing, “Happening now at General Hospital Ifako-Ijaiye, College Road. Please repost. Help is needed.”
Eyewitnesses said firefighters arrived shortly after to combat the inferno, though the cause of the fire had not yet been determined as of press time.
“It was terrifying. People were shouting, trying to get others out. We were scared some mothers and babies might still be inside,” said one onlooker, who declined to be named.
As of the time this report was filed, there were no confirmed casualties, but emergency responders continued efforts to secure the scene and prevent the fire from spreading further.
