Benue killings: I’m ready to invest in peace, says Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says he has found valuable lessons in the criticisms he receives from the media, stating that despite constant personal attacks, he remains open to learning from opposing views.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with political leaders in Benue State on Wednesday, Tinubu remarked, “No matter what I do, they will insult me. I read the papers and I learn from their criticism because I can’t see it all.”

The President is currently on a visit to Benue State, following last week’s deadly attack in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, where armed herders reportedly killed over 100 people.

His remarks came during a broader conversation on governance, unity, and the need for strategic peace efforts in the region.

Addressing Governor Hyacinth Alia directly, Tinubu added, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed. Are you just realising that?”

He stressed the importance of collaboration among political leaders, urging regional stakeholders to come together in search of long-term peace.

“We cannot do without one another,” Tinubu said. “I want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to fashion out a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace.”

The President was received in Makurdi by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Governor Alia.

His visit comes amid growing tension and calls for stronger federal intervention in the wake of repeated violent attacks in Benue communities.
