Michael Olise was the star of the show as Bayern Munich marked their first outing since clinching the Bundesliga title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.
The dynamic Frenchman played a key role, delivering a sublime assist for Harry Kane’s milestone 25th Bundesliga goal of the season before sealing the win himself in the final minute.
Olise’s late strike came after an intricate move with substitute Leroy Sane, capping off another impressive display for Vincent Kompany’s men.
The match also carried emotional weight as club legend Thomas Müller bid farewell to the Allianz Arena, receiving a heartfelt standing ovation from the fans when he was substituted late in the game.
Despite Bayern’s early dominance, they relied on the heroics of Manuel Neuer to avoid an early scare, as the veteran goalkeeper made a superb save to claw away a potential own-goal from teammate Eric Dier.
Seven minutes later, Bayern were rewarded for their persistence. Olise’s shot towards goal took a deft touch off Kane, diverting it past goalkeeper Jonas Omlin.
The England captain is on track to become the first player in Bundesliga history to be the top-scorer in both of his first two campaigns, with one game left to play.
Neuer once again proved decisive in the second half, denying Rocco Reitz’s close-range header from a pinpoint Franck Honorat cross.
As stoppage time approached, Olise turned scorer, finishing off a slick exchange with Sane by slotting the ball into the net.
“It has been a dream debut season for Olise, whose contributions, particularly towards the end of the campaign, have been crucial for Bayern.”
With three goals and four assists in his last four league outings, Olise now boasts 24 goal involvements this season (11 goals, 13 assists). He also led his team in key areas during the game, topping the charts for successful dribbles (five), duels won (eight), and chances created (seven).
The day was also historic for Neuer, who at 39 years and 44 days became Bayern’s second-oldest Bundesliga player. “With only Bernd Dreher (40 years, 198 days) making his final appearance in the competition for the club at an older age,” Neuer’s presence added a sense of legacy to the celebratory occasion.
Bayern’s victory underlined their dominance, while Olise’s electric form continues to raise expectations for what’s to come.
