Former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Ibrahim Kashim, has formally resigned from the party effective July 21, 2025.

In a resignation letter obtained by Vanguard on Monday, Kashim expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership for the opportunities afforded him, including the party’s nomination as its gubernatorial flagbearer in the 2023 elections.

Notably, he had withdrawn from that race to support Governor Bala Mohammed’s re-election bid, campaigning across Bauchi Local Government Area despite the historical challenges faced by second-term aspirants.

“After due consideration, I wish to formally notify you that I have resigned my membership of the PDP and hope to explore other avenues of seeking the mandate of our people to serve them with the same commitment, passion, honesty of purpose, trustworthiness, and above all fear of Allah SWT,” Kashim stated in the letter.

This development follows Kashim’s January 2025 resignation as SSG, which he attributed to Governor Mohammed’s directive. While the former gubernatorial aspirant has not explicitly disclosed his reasons for leaving PDP or his next political moves, political observers speculate he may be positioning himself for the 2027 governorship race under a different party banner.

The resignation marks another significant shift in Bauchi’s political landscape, coming two years after Kashim’s strategic withdrawal to bolster Governor Mohammed’s successful re-election campaign. His departure from PDP now opens new questions about opposition dynamics ahead of the next election cycle.

Party officials have yet to issue an official response to Kashim’s resignation as of press time.
