Barcelona’s Szczesny urges Lewandowski not to quit Golden Boot race

Barcelona goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, has encouraged his teammate Robert Lewandowski to keep chasing the LaLiga Golden Boot despite the challenge ahead.

Lewandowski has scored 25 goals this season, currently trailing Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, who leads the race with 28 goals.

With Barcelona already securing the La Liga title after their 2-0 victory over Espanyol, completing a domestic treble under coach Hansi Flick, the focus now shifts to the top scorer race.

Speaking during the title celebrations, Szczesny told Barca One via GOAL, “All that’s left is for Robert to win the Pichichi. Don’t worry, there’s two games left for Lewy to overtake Mbappe.”

Lewandowski was unable to extend his tally in Barcelona’s narrow 3-2 defeat to Villarreal on Sunday.

Now, with only the final matchday against Athletic Club on May 25 remaining, Lewandowski must score at least four goals to surpass Mbappe’s total, assuming the Real Madrid star doesn’t add to his 28-goal tally.
