Barcelona and Real Madrid face challenging away ties in next month’s Copa del Rey quarter-finals with the Catalans set to take on Valencia, who are battling relegation, while their Clasico rivals will make a short journey across Madrid to face Leganes.

Both clubs secured high-scoring victories in the round of 16, but their paths could not have been more different.

Barcelona delivered a commanding 5-1 win against Real Betis, whereas Real Madrid needed extra time to edge out Celta Vigo 5-2, with Endrick scoring a decisive late brace.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid cruised past Elche and will meet city neighbours Getafe in the next round.

The quarter-final lineup is completed by Real Sociedad, who will clash with Osasuna. Notably, Osasuna eliminated Athletic Club, the defending champions, in the previous round.

The Spanish federation has scheduled the quarter-finals for the first midweek of February, with matches set to take place on February 4, 5, and 6.

This round will come shortly after the conclusion of the league phase in the revamped Champions League.

Barcelona are on the verge of clinching a spot in the tournament’s last 16, while Atletico Madrid are in a strong position to advance.

Real Madrid, however, face a tougher challenge to ensure their continued participation in Europe’s top competition by the time the Copa del Rey quarter-finals arrive.
