The Gabonese Football Federation has announced that veteran forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will miss Gabon’s opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations clash against Cameroon.
The 36-year-old striker, who has long been the nation’s key attacking figure, suffered an injury during Marseille’s 1–0 victory over Monaco in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
The federation confirmed that Aubameyang will remain in France to continue his treatment before joining the national team.
“Olympique de Marseille’s medical staff requested that Aubameyang receive medical treatment in Marseille after consulting with the national team’s medical staff,” the federation stated.
“The player is unavailable for the 24 December match against Cameroon. Depending on his clinical and imaging progress, participation in the 24 December match against Mozambique is possible.” Both matches are scheduled to take place in Agadir.
Gabon, who face defending champions Ivory Coast on 31 December in Marrakech, may also be forced to reshuffle their defense, as Metz centre-back Michel Mboula is considered doubtful for the tournament due to a thigh injury.
