Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed optimism that the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party congresses will bring an end to the lingering crisis in Katsina State.

Atiku spoke to journalists on Saturday after paying a condolence visit to the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, following the death of his son, Abdullah Abdulmumini.

On the internal crises that had divided the PDP into two factions, Atiku added: “There will soon be congresses, so, people will elect whom they want to be their party leaders.”

The former Vice President also visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Daura country home and condoled with the family of late Alhaji Sade, father of the Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited, Lawal Dade.

Atiku’s comments come as a ray of hope for the party, which has been plagued by infighting between the “PDP major stakeholders” group and the state caretaker committee over congress forms sales.

The congresses are expected to provide a fresh start for the party in Katsina State, allowing members to elect new leaders and move forward in unity, according to Ripples Nigeria.

He said: “I also condoled with the family of the former Governor of the defunct Kaduna State, late Alhaji Lawal Kaita, over the death of his widow, Hajiya Yelwa Lawal-kaita.”
