The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has restated the Nigerian Army’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s democracy and protecting citizens amidst persistent security threats.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, the COAS—represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Gold Chibuisi—said the Nigerian Army remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities and will continue to confront terrorism and internal security challenges head-on.

“Our country has faced significant threats from those who seek to disrupt peace and stability,” Chibuisi said on behalf of the Army Chief. “However, the Nigerian Army has consistently responded with resilience, denying these groups the opportunity to destabilise our society or tarnish our national sovereignty.”

The event marked the commencement of activities for the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration , which highlights the Army’s history and contributions to nation-building.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede emphasized that the Army plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order, supporting civil institutions, and securing lives across the country.

“We will not back down in our mission to protect Nigerians and ensure the continuity of our democratic values,” he said.

According to him, the Army’s ongoing transformation agenda prioritizes the welfare and professional development of its personnel, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet evolving security demands.

“This year’s celebration theme reflects our renewed focus on empowering our soldiers. The Nigerian Army has recorded progress in technological innovation, civil-military cooperation, and capacity-building—all aimed at enhancing operational efficiency,” he noted.

Reflecting on the Army’s history, Oluyede praised the sacrifices made by officers and men over the years. “From our humble beginnings as the Glover Hausas to our involvement in global and regional peace missions, the Nigerian Army has always stood as a stabilizing force in the country,” he added.

The Army Chief announced that activities for NADCEL 2025 would include community outreach programs in Kaduna State, free healthcare services, educational lectures, and a commemorative military parade and awards ceremony scheduled for July 6.

“This celebration is not only a reflection of our legacy but also a demonstration of our commitment to unity, service, and national development,” he concluded.
