Interest groups with the All Progressives Congress in Osun State have warned the party of possible electoral defeat ahead of the 2026 governorship election if it denies the Osun-West senatorial district its ticket.
The groups, The Progressives Frontliners and the Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups, charged the leadership of the party to listen to the majority’s voices and cede the ticket to the zone in a bid to end Osun-West marginalisation.
The joint coordinators of the groups, Ademola Rukayat and Samuel Iwolode disclosed that the continuous marginalisation of the senatorial district is partly responsible for the electoral defeat of the party in recent times.
They both agreed that the persistent exclusion of Osun West could jeopardize the APC’s chances of reclaiming power from the Peoples Democratic Party, which currently occupies the state’s Government House.
“This cause is not driven by personal vendettas or grievances, but a clarion call to rectify long standing political imbalances and address the marginalisation that has unjustly affected Osun West for decades.
“The marginalization of Osun West played a significant role in our past electoral defeats. Allocating the candidacy to Osun West is undoubtedly the most assured and straightforward strategy to reclaim Osun State.
“We respectfully urge them to lend an ear to the earnest appeals of their children from Osun. This moment calls for compassionate leadership and recognition of the vital role Osun West has played within the party,” they added.
The group later proceeded to the APC Secretariat in Osogbo to formally submit their letter of request which was received by the party’s Director of Administration and Finance, at the Secretariat.
