The All Progressives Congress has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately cancel the ongoing by-elections for the Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the Ghari constituency rerun election in Kano State, citing widespread violence and voter intimidation.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the demand became necessary “due to widespread extreme violence and election disruption by armed thugs across several polling units in the Shanono, Bagwai, and Ghari constituencies.”
The party reported that verifiable accounts from Shanono, Bagwai, and Ghari revealed scenes of chaos, with voters fleeing polling areas as security personnel were overwhelmed by violent disruptions. According to the APC, these conditions have made the conduct of credible elections impossible.
“Proceeding with the Shanono/Bagwai Kano State Constituency bye-election and Ghari rerun election in the atmosphere of utter brigandage and outright violent voter intimidation will be against democratic dictates of free, fair, and peaceful election and set a dangerous precedent for undesirable and unacceptable electoral heist,” the party declared.
