APC defends Akpabio amid PDP’s allegations against A’Ibom’s ex-gov Emmanuel

The All Progressives Congress has strongly defended the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, against allegations made by the Peoples Democratic Party, claiming that he is behind the alleged difficulties facing Udom Emmanuel, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Recall that on Friday, the PDP had raised concerns, accusing Akpabio of orchestrating a scheme to discredit Emmanuel. The opposition party alleged that Akpabio was behind a well-coordinated effort to manipulate certain media outlets to spread falsehoods, misrepresentations, and unsubstantiated corruption allegations against Emmanuel.

In response, APC spokesman Felix Morka dismissed the allegations, calling it “comical” that the PDP believed it could still be discredited. Morka pointed out that the PDP had already stripped itself of any remaining credibility. “The PDP has done a fantastic job of stripping itself bare of purpose and prestige, and needs no help from anyone, certainly not in the calibre of the President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly,” Morka stated.

The APC further clarified that the PDP had provided no evidence to support its claims, stating, “To be clear, the President of the Senate has no involvement in any smear campaign or in instigating the country’s anti-graft agencies against Udom Emmanuel.” The ruling party also reminded the PDP and Emmanuel that Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, possess broad powers to investigate and prosecute corruption cases.

The APC added, “If Udom Emmanuel has been invited by the agencies, he should quietly go and answer to the allegations.” The party emphasized that the situation should not be politicized by the PDP. “Public officials from across political parties and the private sector have faced scrutiny by anti-graft agencies. Udom Emmanuel’s case cannot and must not be an exception. The former Governor should only be concerned about answering the allegations and clearing his name.”

The APC also suggested that the PDP should focus on addressing its own internal issues instead of accusing others. “You would think that decrepit PDP would keep itself usefully occupied in search of therapy for its self-inflicted paralysis, and finding a courageous Volunteer Aspirant to fly its tattered flag in the November, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State.”

Concluding its statement, the APC urged the PDP and Emmanuel to refrain from involving the President of the Senate in their ongoing issues. “Senator Akpabio remains laser-focused on weaving a strong legislative pillar of support for the bold and transformative reform agenda of our determined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
