Key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South East have unanimously endorsed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s legitimate National Secretary during a crucial regional meeting.
The gathering brought together prominent party figures including former Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Senators Michael Amah Nnachi and Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, Hon. Jones Onyeriri, Zonal Legal Adviser Barr. Ukpai Ukairo, Zonal Organising Secretary Rt. Hon. Mike Ahumibe, and PDP Chairmen from Imo and Abia States.
In a strongly-worded communiqué, the stakeholders: Demanded the PDP National Working Committe comply with the Supreme Court ruling affirming Anyanwu’s position; Declared Chief Ali Odefa’s recent meeting as illegitimate, citing court judgments confirming his suspension/expulsion as National Vice Chairman (South East); Called for contempt proceedings against Odefa; Pushed for immediate congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States to establish proper State Working Committees
The group threw its weight behind Senator Bukola Saraki’s reconciliation committee, stating: “We commend the leadership of the PDP for establishing the Dr. Bukola Saraki-led Reconciliation Committee. We are hopeful that its outcomes will align with the constitution and court decisions governing the party.”
They specifically condemned the Enugu State Government House meeting as a sabotage attempt, warning: “Attempts to sabotage this effort… must be rejected.”
The communiqué emphasized constitutional compliance, noting: “The Deputy National Secretary can only act in the absence of the National Secretary… any attempt to contravene this is legally unsustainable.”
Newly affirmed National Vice Chairman (South East) Chief Chidiebere Egwu reinforced these positions during an Abuja meeting, declaring the Enugu gathering invalid while reaffirming support for Anyanwu.
The stakeholders concluded by urging the Acting National Chairman and NWC to uphold both party constitution and Supreme Court rulings, stressing the PDP’s commitment to rule of law.
