Students from St. John Vianney Science College in Ukwulu, Anambra State, have clinched the overall victory at the first-ever UK-Nigeria Virtual Debate Championship held on Thursday.

The competition, jointly organized by Bring-It-On Africa and Debate Mate UK, featured Nigeria’s Britarch Schools, Sure Start School Abuja, St. Augustine’s College Jos, and St. John Vianney Science College competing against UK representatives Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.

Anambra’s winning team comprised Chibueze Jennifer, Catherine Obiokafor, Benjamin Eneoli, and Valentine Onwuegbusi, guided by their coach Mr. John Onuigbo. The event aimed to promote cross-cultural exchange while honing students’ critical thinking, public speaking, and analytical skills.

Anambra First Lady Dr. Nonye Soludo praised the students’ achievement in a Saturday statement, saying: “Our home is the moulding ground for exceptional talents and record setters who are tapping greatly from the abundant opportunities that the present administration is offering.”

The Healthy Living Initiative founder added: “Our great students have shown, once again that education lives in the core of Anambra’s most cherished dream. It is a philosophy that the present administration clearly understands and is constantly investing in to achieve the kind of result that we’re just celebrating.”

Dr. Soludo also commended the school’s management for their dedication to student development: “Thank you for exposing our students to life-changing academic and personal engagements that will help them to prosper in their chosen fields in the future.”
