The Anambra State Police Command says voting has been peaceful in Ihiala, Ogbaru, Ayamelum and several other parts of the state during Saturday’s governorship election.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka.
“Reports from the field indicate that the election is going on peacefully in Ihiala, Ogbaru, Ayamelum LGAs and other areas,” Ikenga said.
“There is strong and coordinated security presence to ensure a secure and orderly voting atmosphere across the state.”
According to him, police personnel and operatives of other security agencies have been stationed at polling units, collation centres and strategic waterways to prevent disruption and allow voters to participate without fear.
“We have continued to dominate all strategic locations in collaboration with sister security agencies. Border communities are also being closely monitored to deter any attempt to breach the peace,” he added.
Ikenga reassured political parties and residents that the police remain impartial.
“The Command maintains strict neutrality and is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process,” he said.
He urged voters to remain calm, obey lawful instructions from officers on duty and contribute to a peaceful election environment.
