Amotekun arrests 32 suspects over kidnapping, theft across Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, has arrested 32 persons in connection with various criminal activities across the state, including kidnapping, theft, attempted murder and violations of the anti-grazing law.

The State Commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Sunday at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, saying the arrests followed intensified, intelligence-led operations carried out with other security agencies.

“Over the past few days, our operatives have recorded significant successes through enhanced surveillance and coordinated security efforts,” Adeleye said.

He explained that 12 suspects were picked up for breaching public peace, three for offences linked to farmer-herder conflicts, while 17 were connected to kidnapping-related crimes.

According to him, three men were arrested in Idoani for allegedly attempting to kill their employer after destroying his livestock.

“The suspects, identified as Ibrahim, Yunusa and Abdukadri, reportedly roasted about 10 cows belonging to their Fulani employer and later attempted to take his life,” he stated.

In Oba Akoko, Adeleye said operatives intercepted two suspected kidnappers at a location believed to be meant for a ransom exchange.

“We acted on credible intelligence, laid an ambush and arrested Pius and John, aged 23 and 35. Investigations are ongoing, and other accomplices are being tracked,” he said.

The commander added that several other suspects were arrested in Ile-Oluji, Ondo town, Akin Camp in Odigbo Local Government Area, and parts of Akure for offences ranging from conspiracy and assault to stealing.

“One of the suspects had earlier escaped from lawful custody after being arrested for kidnapping, but was later re-arrested. The victims involved in that case were successfully rescued,” Adeleye noted.

He further disclosed that the corps recently intercepted a Mercedes-Benz truck in Akure conveying 38 men who could not clearly explain their destination within the state.

“The interception was part of our proactive measures to prevent the infiltration of criminal elements,” he said.
Adeleye maintained that the security situation in Ondo had improved.

“Criminal activities are on the decline, and we will continue to sustain pressure on all forms of crime to ensure the safety of our people,” he added.
