Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has expressed a strong desire to remain at Old Trafford for the long haul, despite enduring a difficult start to his tenure.
Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag last November, managed just seven victories in 27 Premier League matches, as United slumped to a 15th-place finish, their lowest in over half a century.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ESPN, the Portuguese coach reflected on his ambitions and the challenges he faced during his debut season in England.
“I want to stay for 20 years. That’s my goal and I really believe in that. Something will happen. It always does. Sometimes I’ll get lucky. I’ve been very lucky during my coaching career and my intention is to stay here for many years.”
He acknowledged the pressure that comes with the job, particularly after a season that failed to meet expectations.
“On the other hand, we know that it is the results that decide. I know that I did not succeed last year, but I am ready to start again.”
Amorim remains optimistic about the club’s potential, emphasizing that Manchester United possesses qualities that go beyond financial muscle.
“I have no doubt (about success), because some things you cannot buy with money and the club has those things. The history. The supporters. The money. We have money even without Champions League games.”
Despite the rocky start, Amorim is determined to turn things around and build a lasting legacy at one of football’s most storied institutions.
