Real Madrid have reportedly reached a complete agreement with Xabi Alonso to take over as the club’s new head coach, according to renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Alonso, currently at the helm of Bayer Leverkusen, has committed to a three-year deal with the Spanish giants that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2028.
This development marks the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s chapter and the dawn of a fresh era led by the former Real Madrid midfielder.
Romano shared the update on Monday via X, writing, “Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, here we go! Story confirmed and deal sealed for Xabi as new manager until 2028.”
The agreement also covers Alonso’s full coaching team, with the club already setting plans in motion for his first appearance in charge at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, where Real Madrid are expected to compete as Champions League winners.
“Staff sorted, contract in place and three year deal for Alonso with Real planning for him to start at FIFA Club World Cup,” Romano added.
As the managerial baton prepares to change hands, Ancelotti is poised to make a graceful exit. The club is expected to formalize the handover in the coming weeks.
Ancelotti, who has enjoyed immense success across two spells in Madrid, will step down before Alonso officially takes the reins.
Romano noted, “Ancelotti farewell soon, then Xabi era.”
