Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have made a strong impression at the ongoing 2025 WAFU B U-20 Championship, with four of their players earning spots in the prestigious Group Stage Best XI.
Centre-back Ahmed Akinyele, left-back Odinaka Okoro, winger Bidemi Amole, and striker Muhammed Abdullahi were all named among the tournament’s standout performers.
Abdullahi has been particularly impressive, netting two crucial goals for Nigeria so far.
The Best XI selection also includes two players each from host nation Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Togo, while Burkina Faso had one representative.
Côte d’Ivoire’s Younes Zerdouk was recognized for his tactical brilliance and named the Best Coach of the Group Stage.
The Flying Eagles are set to battle Niger Republic in a crucial semi-final showdown on Sunday (today), as they aim to reach the final. In the other semi-final tie, Ghana’s Black Satellites will face off against Côte d’Ivoire in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
