Again, Tanker on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A petrol-laden tanker went up in flames on Wednesday morning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing panic among motorists and residents near the NASFAT praying ground.

Eyewitnesses say the tanker fell while in motion and ignited shortly afterward, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and bringing traffic to a halt. The incident occurred in front of the NASFAT camp, a popular religious site along the busy highway.

A user on X (formerly Twitter), Segun Oladejo, described the situation as terrifying. “A tanker is burning on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway just opposite the NASFAT praying ground. The fire is horrible,” he posted.

As of the time this report was filed, emergency responders had not yet arrived at the scene.

This latest incident comes just two days after a similar tanker explosion occurred between the Oremeji and Olorunsogo areas of the same expressway, leading to prolonged gridlock and concerns over road safety.

Although no casualties have been reported in either incident, the repeated occurrences have raised concerns among commuters. “It’s becoming a regular thing now,” said Tunde Lawal, a commercial driver who plies the route daily. “Every week we are hearing of tankers falling and catching fire. Something must be done.”

The cause of Wednesday’s accident remains unclear, but authorities are expected to launch an investigation.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area or take alternative routes while efforts are underway to manage the situation.
