Nigeria’s D’Tigress proved their mettle once again with a gritty 60-55 triumph over a determined Mozambique side in their second Group D fixture at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Monday.

The narrow win not only secures the defending champions a place in the quarterfinals but also extends their remarkable unbeaten streak in the competition to 26 games.

Trailing 28–24 at halftime, the Nigerian ladies dug deep in the second half. They edged Mozambique 18–15 in the third quarter before finishing strong with another 18–12 run in the final stretch to close out the contest.

Murjanatu Musa led Nigeria’s charge with a game-high 19 points, while Mozambique’s Leia Dongue contributed 11 points for her side.

Despite a poor showing from beyond the arc—converting just 13.04% of their three-point attempts compared to Mozambique’s 20%—D’Tigress showcased their championship mentality.

A crucial 12-0 run in the third quarter shifted momentum firmly in their favour.

With two wins from two, including an emphatic 92-45 opener against Rwanda, D’Tigress finish top of Group D and advance directly to the last eight.

The four-time defending champions now set their sights on clinching a fifth consecutive AfroBasket crown and their seventh overall, as they continue to chase down record-holders Senegal, who boast 11 titles.
