Nigeria’s D’Tigers saw their AfroBasket 2025 campaign come to an end on Wednesday after falling 91-75 to Senegal in the quarter-finals.
The Nigerians had entered the knockout stage on the back of an impressive group-phase run, where they defeated defending champions Tunisia, as well as Madagascar and Cameroon, to finish unbeaten.
Against Senegal, D’Tigers edged the first quarter 24-23, but their opponents took control in the middle periods, outscoring them 39-18 in the second quarter and 23-13 in the third.
Although Nigeria rallied to claim the fourth quarter 20-15, the damage had already been done, leaving Senegal to advance to the semi-finals.
The result means Nigeria’s hunt for a second AfroBasket crown, and their first since 2015, goes on.
Senegal, who had to navigate a qualification tie after two wins and a defeat in the group stage, earned their place in the last eight by overcoming South Sudan.
Their victory over Nigeria ensured they maintained hopes of continental glory.
The D’Tigers’ exit also contrasts sharply with the achievements of their female counterparts, D’Tigress, who only weeks ago stormed to a record-extending fifth straight AfroBasket title in Côte d’Ivoire.
