The African Democratic Congress has suspended its National Vice Chairman for the South-South region, Dr. Usani Usani, citing allegations of anti-party behavior, insubordination, and actions deemed harmful to the party’s image and internal cohesion.
The suspension, announced on Monday, follows a meeting held by the State Working Committee of the ADC in Cross River State on October 15, 2025. According to the party, the decision was reached after a careful review of multiple petitions filed against Dr. Usani.
Confirming the development in a statement released in Abuja, the State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, James Otudor, said Dr. Usani’s actions violated the provisions of the party’s constitution and principles.
“The committee reviewed various complaints and found Dr. Usani’s conduct inconsistent with the values and unity the ADC stands for,” Otudor stated. “This includes insubordination and engaging in acts capable of damaging the party’s credibility and electoral strength.”
Otudor explained that the suspension will remain in force while the party conducts a formal investigation in line with its disciplinary procedures.
“In accordance with the ADC Constitution, his suspension is effective immediately and will continue pending the conclusion of investigations by relevant party organs,” he added.
In a related matter, the state chapter also criticised the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, accusing the national leadership of bypassing due consultation with the Cross River ADC.
“There was no input from the state leadership regarding her appointment. Since taking up the role, her involvement with the Cross River chapter has been minimal, raising concerns about her commitment,” Otudor said.
He urged the national leadership to reconsider Wayas’ position and nominate a more competent and media-savvy representative from the state with a demonstrated track record in party affairs.
The SWC further expressed displeasure with certain individuals linked to the Coalition Movement, who, despite publicly aligning with the ADC, had yet to finalize their membership registration.
“We will not tolerate dual political allegiances or the misuse of our platform by politicians pursuing conflicting partisan interests,” Otudor warned.
To address this, the committee issued a seven-day deadline—ending October 25, 2025—for all coalition leaders and intending members to complete their registration at the ward level or risk being barred from party leadership and decision-making structures.
The Cross River chapter concluded its statement by pledging loyalty to the ADC’s national leadership and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the party as a viable political alternative in the South-South region.
“We call on all our members to remain calm and law-abiding as we allow the party’s internal mechanisms for justice and accountability to function as intended,” the statement concluded.
