The African Democratic Congress in Lagos has hailed the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, describing him as a true advocate of the people.

The party’s state chairman, Mr. George Ashiru, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos, following Rhodes-Vivour’s recent defection to the ADC.

Rhodes-Vivour officially announced his exit from the Labour Party and entry into the ADC on Saturday.

Reacting, Ashiru said the move was a welcome development, noting that the politician had consistently demonstrated commitment to the people’s cause.

“From his days as a senatorial candidate for Lagos West in 2019, to flying the Labour Party’s flag in the 2023 governorship race, GRV has proven to be a champion of the electorate,” Ashiru said.

He added that Rhodes-Vivour’s decision to pitch his tent with the ADC reflected patriotism and a desire to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic space.

“As the political home of Nigeria’s patriots and long-suffering citizens, we warmly embrace him. We also extend that same handshake to others who share this vision,” Ashiru stated.

The chairman further revealed that Rhodes-Vivour had brought along a large number of Labour Party members into the ADC, positioning the party to build a stronger opposition front and present Nigerians with a credible alternative.
