Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has opened up about a personal health challenge that led to the surgical removal of her thyroid, following a cancer scare.
In a candid conversation with veteran actress Joke Silva, which has now gone viral, Mercy recounted how the ordeal began and the toll it took on her family, especially as her youngest child was just six months old at the time.
“I had a cancer scare, and I had my thyroid removed,” the actress revealed. “It was a very difficult time for us. My husband and I had to come to terms with the new reality.”
She disclosed that the surgery came with a lifelong medical commitment.
“After the operation, the doctors said I would be on medication for the rest of my life. They explained I couldn’t afford to miss a single dose and detailed the possible side effects,” she explained.
The mother of four admitted that the situation forced her and her husband, Prince Odi Okojie, to accept and adjust to the new normal. “We kept saying to each other, ‘Let’s understand that this is the new us.’ We had to move on, grow from it, and find comfort in the life we have now,” she added.
This revelation sheds light on the actress’s visible weight changes, which she addressed in the conversation. “I’m reconciling with what you’re saying about my weight loss. It’s part of the journey and where I am now,” she said.
