Nigerian actress Grace Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has made a remarkable life transition by enlisting in the United States Navy and acquiring American citizenship.

The 35-year-old Cross River State native shared this significant milestone on her Instagram page, expressing gratitude and reflecting on her journey.

“First, all glory to God,” Bassey wrote. “Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States. This journey wasn’t easy—but I carried my roots, my faith, and my vision every step of the way. Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever. Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning. In honor of my late father—Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.”

Bassey’s decision to join the U.S. Navy is deeply personal, serving as a tribute to her late father, who was a commander in the Nigerian Navy. Her journey from Nollywood to the military has been met with admiration and support from fans and colleagues alike.

In 2021, Bassey underwent a spiritual transformation, changing her name from Belinda Effah to Grace Charis Bassey after what she described as a divine encounter. She explained that “Belinda” means “beautiful serpent,” a name that never resonated with her. “God changed my name to Grace after a divine encounter,” she stated, aligning her new identity with her faith and purpose.

Throughout her acting career, Bassey received several accolades, including the Most Promising Act of the Year at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards. Her transition from the entertainment industry to military service exemplifies her resilience and commitment to personal growth.
