Residents of several communities in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, are currently experiencing a power outage following a vehicular accident that damaged a high-tension pole along the Akala Expressway.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company announced the disruption in a notice issued on Monday and signed by its management.
According to the company, the accident affected the Oluyole 11kV feeder, resulting in an immediate loss of electricity supply to communities connected to several transformers in the area.
The notice read, “Kindly be informed that due to a vehicular accident which damaged a HT pole on the Oluyole 11kV feeder along Akala Expressway, communities under the following transformers are experiencing a power outage: Adeoje 1, Adeoje 2, Adeoje 3, Adeoje 4, Red Gate, Bird Plus, Dominance, Omooke, Sofeco, White New and environs.”
IBEDC assured residents that its technical team had begun work to restore power supply as quickly as possible.
The company also apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience while repair works continue.
“Efforts are ongoing to ensure supply is restored as soon as possible. We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience,” the company stated.
Meanwhile, similar electricity supply challenges have been reported in other parts of the country.
Kaduna Electric recently informed customers of reduced power supply across its coverage area, attributing the situation to gas supply constraints affecting electricity generation on the national grid.
The development has resulted in lower power allocation and increased load shedding across Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
Similarly, Eko Electricity Distribution Company earlier notified customers in Lagos State of a planned power outage scheduled for Saturday, March 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The company said the temporary outage would enable contractors of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to carry out maintenance and upgrade works aimed at improving electricity service delivery.
