The Adekunle Ajasin University Students’ Union has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Ondo State Police Command following the controversial death of Femi Oladele, the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of two undergraduates.
Oladele, the victims’ landlord, was arrested at an Akungba-Akoko hotel alongside two other suspects – Kola and Michael – after the brutal killing of Abah John Friday (25) and Okah Andrel Eloho (19). The students were reportedly abducted, robbed, raped, and murdered for allegedly “disrespecting” Oladele, who police say instructed cultists to “deal with” them.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed Oladele’s death in custody, stating: “Yes, he is dead. He had been under medical supervision since his arrest and had been in and out of the hospital. He passed away yesterday (Friday). We have recovered the decomposing body of Okah and are still searching for Abba’s remains.”
Investigative sources revealed Oladele developed a mysterious illness after confessing to the crimes. “Oladele gave up at the hospital after confessing to the killings. I heard he took ill immediately after his arrest,” a source disclosed.
The students’ union, in a statement signed by President Salami Akeem, General Secretary Bakare Jamiu Abiodun, and PRO Ajidagba Mosadoluwa, demanded: “We are giving the Police a strict ultimatum to comply with this demand… We believe that justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done. This is the least owed to the grieving families, the AAUA community, and the general public.”
The union threatened mass protests if their demands for transparency aren’t met, warning: “This protest will be carried out physically as enshrined in our rights as citizens, to demand transparency, accountability, and the proper handling of this sensitive matter.”
Police maintain their commitment to justice, noting the arrested suspects allegedly stole ₦800,000 from Abah’s account. “We urge the public to disregard any attempt to twist the facts. The Command remains fully committed to justice,” Ayanlade stated.
