Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated two new commissioners, Sanusi Tofa and Balarabe Gani, assigning them to oversee the Ministries of Information and Solid Minerals, respectively.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Government House in Kano on Friday night, with the state Attorney-General, Abdulkareem Maude, administering the oath of office.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Tofa, a former Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, was appointed Commissioner for Information, while Gani, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, was named Commissioner for Solid Minerals.
Addressing the newly sworn-in commissioners, Yusuf urged them to demonstrate commitment, humility, transparency and accountability in carrying out their responsibilities under his administration’s Kano First Agenda.
The governor described public office as a position of trust, urging the appointees to maintain high ethical standards.
“Public office is a public trust and commitment. So, I urge you to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and discipline in the discharge of your responsibilities,” he said.
Yusuf charged Tofa to ensure the timely dissemination of government policies and activities, while strengthening public awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse, illicit substances and tobacco consumption.
He also directed the Information Commissioner to collaborate with the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to intensify sensitisation efforts.
The governor tasked Gani with developing the state’s solid minerals sector and positioning it as a major driver of economic growth.
He said the appointments were based on merit, competence and integrity, expressing confidence that the new commissioners would contribute meaningfully to the development of Kano State.
Yusuf also appreciated members of the state House of Assembly, led by Speaker Jibril Ismaila Falgore, for their cooperation in the screening and confirmation of the nominees.
