Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, is set to undergo surgery on his left knee after sustaining an injury during Galatasaray’s recent UEFA Champions League encounter against VfB Stuttgart.
The Turkish champions confirmed the development in a statement published on their official X handle on Friday, disclosing that medical examinations revealed a loose body in the forward’s knee.
According to the club, Osimhen initially suffered a strain in his left knee during the European fixture, prompting further medical assessments, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.
The scans subsequently detected a loose body in the joint, making surgical intervention necessary.
Galatasaray said the 27-year-old would undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Saturday at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, with the procedure to be carried out by the club’s doctor, Yener İnce.
In its statement, the club said, “In the UEFA Champions League match we played against VfB Stuttgart, our player Victor Osimhen sustained a strain in his left knee, and MRI examinations detected a loose body.
An arthroscopic knee surgery will be performed tomorrow at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital by our club doctor Yener İnce.
“For this reason, our player has been removed from the squad for tomorrow’s match against Amed S. F.”
The development means the Super Eagles striker will miss Galatasaray’s league encounter against Amed S.F. on Saturday as he begins treatment and rehabilitation following the procedure.
Osimhen’s absence comes as a setback for the Turkish champions, who will be monitoring his recovery while awaiting further medical updates on his condition and possible return to action.
