Daichi Kamada scored a stoppage-time equaliser as Crystal Palace fought back to secure a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim in their UEFA Europa League clash at Selhurst Park on Thursday, despite Adam Wharton’s second-half dismissal.
Hoffenheim took an early lead in the seventh minute through Alexander Prass, whose effort slipped underneath Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson to put the visitors ahead.
Palace struggled to find a response after conceding, with Hoffenheim holding on to their advantage for much of the encounter.
The hosts’ task became more difficult in the 77th minute when Wharton was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
The midfielder had been booked 19 minutes earlier following an aerial challenge.
With Palace facing another disappointing result under manager Pierre Sage, Kamada stepped up to rescue a point for the home side.
The Japanese midfielder struck in the first minute of stoppage time to level the score and spark relief among the home supporters.
The draw leaves Crystal Palace with a record of one win, two draws and one defeat in the Europa League league phase, while Hoffenheim have recorded one win, one draw and two losses.
