Makinde unveils Sola Sobowale’s elderly care home in Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated an elderly care facility established by veteran Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale in Ibadan, the state capital.

The facility, known as Joseph and Esther Homes, is designed to provide accommodation, professional care and a supportive living environment for senior citizens, with a focus on promoting independence, comfort and dignity in old age.

The commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with dignitaries, guests and well-wishers in attendance. The event was also streamed live on Sobowale’s Instagram page.

A video shared on social media showing the commissioning ceremony has also attracted attention, with attendees seen gathered at the venue as the facility was officially unveiled.

Photographs from the ceremony showed guests gathered on a green lawn, with a red carpet leading to the podium and blue-and-white decorations adorning the venue.

Joseph and Esther Homes operates under the tagline, “Live Well, Age Well, Thrive Together,” and describes itself as “A Place to Call Home.” Its model combines purpose-designed residential accommodation, personalised care and community living to support the needs of older people.

Information on the facility’s website indicates that the project is aimed at providing an alternative for families seeking professional assistance in caring for ageing relatives, particularly where work commitments, distance or living abroad make regular caregiving difficult.
Explaining its approach to elderly care, the organisation stated, “We do not replace family. We help families care better.”

It further explained, “Caring for an ageing parent is hard, especially when work, family or living abroad make it impossible to always be there. Through professional care, a safe home and regular communication, we give families the reassurance of knowing their loved one is supported, respected and surrounded by people who genuinely care. Whether you live nearby or thousands of miles away, you remain an important part of their life.”

The project represents an expansion of Sobowale’s activities beyond the entertainment industry into elderly care, a sector that is increasingly important as families seek organised support for ageing relatives.

The actress is widely recognised for her performances in popular Nigerian productions, including Super Story, where she gained prominence as Toyin Tomato, The Wedding Party and King of Boys, in which she played the character Eniola Salami.

Sobowale has also worked as a filmmaker, screenwriter, director and producer, establishing herself as one of Nollywood’s prominent figures.

Meanwhile, the commissioning of the facility by Makinde highlights the role of private investment in developing social care services and infrastructure in Oyo State.
