Nigerian socio-political activist and Nigeria Democratic Congress chieftain, Aisha Yesufu, on Monday, declared her readiness to confront those she describes as her oppressors, warning that she will no longer take their actions lightly as she sets her sights on January 2027.
Yesufu made the declaration in a public announcement on her social media handle, where she vowed to uphold the principles instilled in her by her father, stressing that her determination to resist oppression would remain unwavering in the coming months.
“From now till January 2027, I will live by the tenets on which my father brought me up, which is IF I WANT PEACE, I SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WAR!!!!!!” she wrote.
The activist, who urged those uncomfortable with her stance to block or mute her social media handle, maintained that she was no longer willing to treat her perceived oppressors with levity.
“For your peace of mind and sanity, you can block or mute my handle!!!! I am not going to kid around with my oppressors!” Yesufu added.
She concluded her announcement with a defiant message, declaring, “The battle line has been drawn,” although she did not identify the individuals or groups she was referring to as her oppressors.
Yesufu is known for her outspoken advocacy for good governance, accountability and social justice.
She rose to national prominence as a co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement following the abduction of schoolgirls from Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram insurgents in April 2014. She has also been involved in the #EndSARS movement against police brutality.
The activist has remained a prominent voice in Nigeria’s political discourse and has been involved in political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Her latest declaration comes amid heightened political mobilisation and public debates as the country approaches the polls.
