One dead, three injured in Lagos building collapse

One person has died and three others sustained injuries after a building collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State.

Channels Television reported that the incident occurred on Akinola Street, off Ikorodu Road, on Friday morning, prompting a search-and-rescue operation by emergency responders.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said the cause of the collapse had yet to be determined, adding that efforts were ongoing to establish the number of people trapped beneath the rubble.

According to the agency, emergency responders had commenced a coordinated search of the scene to rescue anyone trapped under the collapsed structure.

LASEMA also said it was coordinating the response operation alongside other relevant agencies, including LRU paramedics, the Lagos State Fire Service, LASASA and the Nigeria Police Force.

The latest incident comes weeks after a person died when a building partially collapsed during manual demolition in the Alimosho area of Lagos in September.

In June, at least nine people were confirmed dead while 16 others were rescued with varying degrees of injuries following a building collapse in the Alakija area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of the state.
