Real Sociedad ended their four-match winless run in the UEFA Europa League with a convincing 6-0 victory over Lillestrom at Arasen Stadion on Thursday.
The Spanish side took the lead against the run of play when Sergio Gomez finished Mikel Oyarzabal’s pass into the top corner.
The duo combined again shortly afterwards, with Gomez scoring his second goal after receiving another assist from Oyarzabal.
Real Sociedad continued their impressive first-half display as Oyarzabal registered his third assist of the match, setting up Luka Sucic to extend the visitors’ advantage before the break.
Lillestrom attempted to fight back after the restart and earned a penalty when Jon Martin fouled Gustav Nyheim inside the box.
However, Thomas Olsen’s effort was saved by Real Sociedad goalkeeper Unai Marrero, who dived in the right direction to deny the hosts.
Lillestrom came close to reducing the deficit, with Olsen heading narrowly wide before Yildren Ibrahimaj struck the crossbar from distance.
Their missed opportunities proved costly as Real Sociedad increased their lead through substitute Orri Oskarsson, who converted Goncalo Guedes’ cross.
Sucic then completed his brace after the ball fell kindly to him inside the penalty area, allowing him to calmly slot home the visitors’ fifth goal.
Substitute Arsen Zakharyan added a sixth with a long-range effort to complete the emphatic victory.
The result gave Real Sociedad their first win of the Europa League campaign and extended their unbeaten away run across all competitions to five matches, including four victories and one draw.
Meanwhile, Lillestrom suffered their first defeat in five matches across all competitions.
The Norwegian side remain without a win in the Europa League league phase, having recorded one draw and two defeats.
