Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has recounted his longstanding relationship with Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, dating back to their boarding school days nearly five decades ago.
Otedola shared the memory in a post on his X account on Monday, following a dinner he organised in honour of Hamzat, who is the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election.
Reflecting on their school days, the businessman described Hamzat as a man of integrity with whom he once shared a bunk bed.
“Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago,” Otedola wrote.
He also commended the deputy governor’s personal qualities, highlighting his honesty, sincerity and commitment to fairness.
“My experience of his character over the years has been defined by his honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles,” he added.
The dinner attracted prominent Nigerian business leaders, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and industrialist Abdul Samad Rabiu.
Hamzat emerged as the APC’s candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election in May after winning the party’s primary. He secured 657,917 votes, while his challenger, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, received one vote, according to the announced results.
The deputy governor has held office since 2019 and is seeking to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose second and final term is scheduled to end in 2027.
His candidacy places him in contention to lead Nigeria’s commercial hub in the next political dispensation.
