2027: Atiku promises lower cost of living, urges Nigerians to collect PVCs

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to address Nigeria’s rising cost of living and insecurity if elected president in 2027.

Atiku made the pledge in a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, October 14, while urging registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the general elections.

The former vice-president expressed concern over the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, noting that families, pensioners and young workers were struggling to meet their basic needs.

He said many parents were finding it difficult to provide food for their children, while pensioners had to choose between purchasing medicines and meeting other essential needs.

Atiku also highlighted the financial pressures confronting young Nigerians, particularly the rising costs of transportation, accommodation and other necessities.

“Young people work hard, yet transport, rent and basic needs consume what they earn,” he said.

On security, the former vice-president lamented the persistent cases of kidnapping and attacks across the country, noting that many families remained anxious about the safety of their loved ones.

He maintained that Nigerians should not have to contend with hunger and insecurity simultaneously, warning that the country must not allow these challenges to shape the future of younger generations.

“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” Atiku stated.

The ADC presidential candidate urged eligible voters to obtain and keep their PVCs, describing them as important tools for effecting change through the democratic process.

“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he said.

Atiku blamed President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the high cost of living and promised to reverse the trend if given the opportunity to lead the country.

“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he added.

He called on Nigerians across different generations to unite behind his vision of a country where citizens could live in safety, dignity and hope.
