The Oyo State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction of a 38-year-old man, Nathaniel Peter, in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Muhammadu Abubakar and a 17-year-old, Jayun Danali, were arrested during investigations into the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Sunday.
According to him, three armed men invaded Peter’s residence at Layeri Village, near Ikoyi-Ile, at about 4:20 a.m. on September 24.
Ayanlade said the attackers forced their way into the victim’s room and abducted him before escaping through the National Reserve Forest.
He added that the kidnappers also took away the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone.
The police spokesman said the incident was reported later that day, prompting operatives to visit the scene and begin investigations.
He said the two suspects were now assisting investigators with information that could help unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
Ayanlade stated that their arrest had provided “useful investigative leads” towards identifying and apprehending other members of the gang.
He said, “The command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified coordinated operations aimed at securing the safe rescue of the victim and apprehending the fleeing members of the gang.”
The police urged residents of the affected communities to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in their operations.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
