Napoli star McTominay undergoes successful heart surgery

Napoli midfielder, Scott McTominay, has undergone successful surgery to correct a minor heart condition, with the Scotland international expected to return to training in two weeks.

The 29-year-old was diagnosed with a mild benign arrhythmia, an irregular heart rhythm considered non-serious and not a significant threat to his overall health.

McTominay underwent an ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital on Tuesday morning, with Napoli confirming that the operation was successful.

The Serie A club said in a statement, “On Tuesday morning, Scott McTominay underwent an ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital. The operation was a complete success.

“McTominay will rest for two weeks and then resume training.”

The former Manchester United midfielder had already been ruled out by Napoli ahead of the international break, with the club previously indicating that he would return to action afterwards.

His absence means McTominay will miss Napoli’s Champions League opener against Arsenal on Wednesday.

He will also sit out Scotland’s first four matches under new manager Sebastien Pocognoli, including two Nations League fixtures against Slovenia and matches against Switzerland and North Macedonia.
