Golden Eaglets draw Côte d’Ivoire, Niger in WAFU B U-17 Championship

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have been drawn alongside Côte d’Ivoire and Niger Republic in Group B of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso.

The group-stage draw was held on Thursday at the Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou, with seven West African countries divided into two groups for the regional competition.

Nigeria will battle Côte d’Ivoire and Niger for a place in the knockout stages, while hosts Burkina Faso will compete in Group A alongside Benin Republic, Ghana and Togo.

The tournament is scheduled to run from October 4 to 17 in Ouagadougou and will also serve as the qualifying competition for the 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

The Golden Eaglets head into the championship with a strong pedigree at youth level, having won the FIFA U-17 World Cup five times.

Nigeria will now look to navigate a challenging Group B campaign and secure progression as they target another successful outing at the regional tournament.

The encounters against Côte d’Ivoire and Niger are expected to provide a stern test for the Nigerian youngsters as they pursue qualification for the continental U-17 competition.
