Nigeria’s Falconets opened their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Poland on Friday.
The friendly, played at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland, saw Mary Mamudu score the decisive goal as Nigeria defeated the host nation’s U-20 women’s team.
Mamudu found the breakthrough in first-half stoppage time, firing Nigeria ahead in the 45th minute plus one.
Poland attempted to respond after the interval, but the Falconets remained resolute and protected their advantage until the final whistle.
The victory is a timely boost for Nigeria as they continue preparations for the tournament, which will be held in Poland from August 31 to September 22.
The Falconets will play another warm-up match against South Korea on September 1 as they fine-tune their preparations for the competition.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.
The Falconets will be hoping to finally win the U-20 Women’s World Cup after finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2014. Despite their impressive record in the competition, they are yet to lift the trophy.
Friday’s victory over Poland gives the Nigerian side confidence heading into their World Cup campaign as they target a historic title triumph.
