Nigerian striker, Tolu Arokodare, continued his impressive start at Ajax, scoring twice as the Dutch club defeated FC Sion 5-3 in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off on Thursday.
Ajax entered the encounter with a 4-2 advantage from the first leg in Switzerland and eventually secured a comfortable 9-5 aggregate victory to book their place in the competition’s league phase.
Youri Baas gave Ajax a flying start by opening the scoring after just one minute, while Davy Klaassen doubled the advantage in the 39th minute.
Arokodare then made his mark just before half-time, finding the net in stoppage time to put Ajax firmly in control.
The Nigerian forward completed his brace six minutes after the restart, scoring in the 51st minute before Oliver Valaker Edvardsen added a fifth goal three minutes later.
Sion responded through Winsley Boteli Mokango, who completed a hat-trick with goals in the 18th, 36th and 90th minutes, but Ajax held on to complete a convincing aggregate victory.
Arokodare, who joined Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the season, has now scored in both legs against Sion.
His latest brace takes his tally to three goals across the two matches and underlines his growing importance to Ajax as they advance to the Conference League league phase.
