Osimhen reportedly opens door to Arsenal move

Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen has refused to rule out a possible move to Arsenal this summer amid renewed speculation over his future.

The Nigeria international, who scored twice in Galatasaray’s 2-2 draw against newly promoted Corum FK on the opening day of the Turkish league season, was asked about reports linking him with a move to the Emirates Stadium after the game.

Osimhen maintained that his immediate focus remained on his duties at Galatasaray but stopped short of committing his long-term future to the club.

“There are always rumours during the transfer windows. I will focus on my job. I am focused on my work. We will see and think about what comes next then,” Osimhen said.

Spanish outlet SPORT reported that Barcelona had been offered an opportunity to sign the 27-year-old but opted to explore other attacking options.

The development has reportedly increased Arsenal’s chances of securing the striker, who Transfermarkt values at more than £64m.

Galatasaray are also said to have turned down a €130m bid from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, while Arsenal have reportedly resumed discussions over a potential deal.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is seeking to strengthen his attacking options after the Gunners scored 71 Premier League goals last season.

The club have also reportedly missed out on several attacking targets, including Morgan Rogers, Bradley Barcola and Julian Alvarez.

Despite the transfer speculation, Osimhen stressed his commitment to Galatasaray, with whom he has a contract until June 2029.

“It is going to be a tough season. The team is aware of that. I am ready to give everything for this club. This was an important wake-up call. It was a wake-up call for the players too,” he said.

The forward also apologised to Galatasaray supporters following the draw, saying he felt responsible for the team’s failure to secure all three points. He urged his teammates to respond positively in their upcoming fixtures.

“We have to give everything on the pitch. Our fans give us incredible energy, they always support us. We need to reciprocate. We need to gain momentum before the Champions League. We need to fight very well from the very first match,” he added.

Osimhen has registered 53 goals in 69 appearances for Galatasaray since arriving from Napoli. During his time in Italy, he scored 65 goals in 108 Serie A appearances.

Galatasaray will next face fellow newly promoted side Erzurumspor as they seek their first victory of the new campaign.
