The factional leadership of the Accord Party has withdrawn its support for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election and declared its backing for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The party’s factional National Chairman and presidential candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, announced the decision on Thursday at the APC mega rally held in Osun State.
Imumolen urged members of the Accord Party in the state to vote for Oyebamiji during the August 15 election.
He said, “As the national chairman of Accord Party, we have taken down our support for Ademola Adeleke and today, we declare our support for Ambo (Oyebamiji). Come on Saturday, all Accord members in Osun State should go to the polling units and vote for Ambo.”
He further expressed confidence that Oyebamiji would emerge victorious, adding, “By the 15th of August, Ambo will be sworn in as the governor of Osun State.”
Imumolen demonstrated his support for the APC candidate by removing the yellow cap associated with the Accord Party and replacing it with an APC cap during the rally.
Also speaking at the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu, said he had been informed that the Accord Party had abandoned its previous position and decided to support the APC candidate.
According to Akpabio, “The Accord Party has thrown in the towel” and shifted its support to Oyebamiji.
He assured residents that adequate security arrangements would be made for the election and encouraged voters to exercise their franchise without fear.
“Feel free to go out and vote the candidate of your choice,” Akpabio said.
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, also urged APC supporters to remain confident and vote for Oyebamiji, while warning against violence before, during and after the election.
Oyebamiji, in his remarks, promised to run a government focused on improving the lives of Osun residents if elected.
He said, “The government of the APC that will be elected by the 15th of August, 2026, will be the government of the people, by the people and for the people.”
He added, “I’ve a mandate with you, and the mandate is to touch the lives of the people of Osun.”
The rally was attended by several APC leaders, including the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Senator Adams Oshiomhole; former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande; and former Deputy Senate President, Iyiola Omisore.
The development comes about 48 hours before the Osun governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Imumolen had earlier announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, citing the administration’s reforms and what he described as growing national support for the President.
