Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six suspected oil bunkerers in the process.
The operation, carried out under the command of the battalion’s Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, was conducted following intelligence received by the troops.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the troops recovered four trucks, a pumping machine, as well as various pipes and drums allegedly used for illegal bunkering operations.
Yahaya said the suspects and the recovered items had been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation and necessary action.
The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, commended the troops for the successful operation.
Babalola urged the soldiers to maintain the momentum in the fight against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the division’s area of responsibility.
He said, “The troops are charged to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.”
The latest operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illegal oil-related activities and other forms of economic sabotage in the country.
