NELFUND begins payment of June, July student upkeep allowances

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has commenced the disbursement of June and July upkeep allowances to eligible student beneficiaries under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.

The development was announced by the National Association of Nigerian Students, while some beneficiaries have also posted screenshots of payment alerts on social media, confirming receipt of the funds.

In a statement issued on Friday, the NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, assured students that outstanding payments would be settled.

He said, “The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced.”

Akinteye added, “As I assured you, every outstanding backlog will be paid. We remain committed to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left behind.”

The NANS president urged students who were yet to receive their allowances to remain calm, explaining that the payments were being processed in batches.

“To all beneficiaries, I urge you to remain patient as payments are processed. If you have not received yours yet, kindly stay calm, as disbursements are being made in batches,” he said.

He further reaffirmed NANS’ commitment to protecting the interests of Nigerian students, saying, “We are here for you, always, and we will continue to stand firmly in defence of the welfare and interests of Nigerian students.”

The commencement of the payments follows complaints by some students over delays in receiving their monthly upkeep allowances under the student loan programme.

The NELFUND scheme provides financial support to eligible students in tertiary institutions, including monthly upkeep allowances, while approved tuition fees are paid directly to their respective institutions.
