Fire guts part of popular Lagos store Justrite

A fire incident has destroyed the electronics section of a Justrite Superstore located on Akowonjo Road in the Egbeda area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the incident occurred at No. 116, Akowonjo Road, close to Jimoh Bus Stop.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the agency received a distress call at about 8:15 a.m., with firefighters from the Abesan and Agege stations arriving at the scene shortly after.

According to her, the firefighters immediately commenced operations to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the commercial building.

Adeseye said, “Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly deployed firefighting equipment and commenced coordinated operations to contain the fire, prevent its spread to adjoining sections of the building, and safeguard lives, property, and the environment.”

She confirmed that the blaze had been brought under control, while recovery and mop-up operations continued at the scene.

The fire service boss said preliminary findings indicated that the fire may have started from the building’s solar inverter system.

In her words, “The fire has been put out as recovery of the remains is ongoing to bring the mop-up exercise to a wrap. The cause of the fire is suggestive of an alternative power source, the solar inverter system, while no casualty has been recorded.”

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said further investigations would be conducted to establish the exact cause of the fire.

The incident occurred hours after another fire involving a gas-laden tanker was reported along Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency attributed that incident to the tanker reportedly hitting a road bump.
