Burna Boy, Shakira reunite for historic W’Cup final halftime show

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has reunited with Colombian pop sensation, Shakira ahead of their highly anticipated performance at the inaugural FIFA World Cup final halftime show.

The Grammy-winning singer shared a video on his X account on Friday capturing a light-hearted moment with Shakira during rehearsals for Sunday’s final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.

The clip showed the two global music stars exchanging smiles, sharing a warm embrace and laughing together outside the production trailers as final preparations continued for the showpiece event.

Sharing the video, Burna Boy wrote: “Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!”

He also posted a series of rehearsal photos, further building anticipation for what FIFA has described as a landmark entertainment spectacle.

FIFA had previously confirmed that Burna Boy and Shakira will perform “Dai Dai,” the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, during the competition’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show.

The performance marks a major shift from the tournament’s long-standing tradition of having no entertainment during the interval of the final, with FIFA introducing the halftime show to broaden the event’s global appeal and celebrate the tournament through music and culture.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the halftime interval for Sunday’s final could be extended beyond the customary 15 minutes to accommodate the entertainment segment.

Under the proposed schedule, viewers are expected to have about 15 minutes of studio analysis before an 11-minute live performance headlined by Burna Boy and Shakira, taking the overall break to roughly 30 minutes.

FIFA also announced that the halftime show will feature an impressive lineup of international stars, including BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus alongside Coldplay, as well as special appearances by beloved characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.

Beyond the entertainment, FIFA said the halftime show will help promote global education initiatives aimed at improving access to learning opportunities for children around the world.

Sunday’s World Cup final will see reigning European champions Spain take on defending world champions Argentina in what is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
