FRSC to skip Edo LG election after missing official invitation

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Edo State Sector Command, has announced that it will not participate in Saturday’s local government election in the state, citing the absence of an official invitation from election authorities.

The Edo State Sector Commander, Preye Bedford, disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin on Friday.

According to him, the command was not included in the election arrangements because it did not receive any formal request to take part in the exercise.

“My command is not involved. We weren’t invited,” Bedford said.

The sector commander also addressed the planned restriction of movement across the state from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on election day, noting that the corps had not made specific operational plans due to its non-involvement.

“We will only assess the situation before we know what to do,” he added.

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has cleared 12 political parties to participate in the election across the state’s 18 local government areas.

The election is expected to take place under a 12-hour movement restriction aimed at ensuring security and orderly conduct of the poll. However, with the FRSC opting out, its role in traffic management during the exercise remains uncertain.
